There are two programs for students currently running at the Ontario Legislative Assembly, and I'm encouraging students and their teachers across Beaches-East York to get involved!
1) Speaker's Award for Youth Writers - we're looking for submissions of essays and short stories (500-2500 words) from students in Ontario in grades 7 to 12. Original fiction and non-fiction entries are welcome and winners will be chosen from each of the three following categories:
- Grades 7 & 8
- Grades 9 & 10
- Grades 11 & 12
To find out more, read last year's winners, or submit your work, visit the program site HERE. Submissions are welcome until November 4th.
2) Model Parliament Program - the Legislative Assembly is holding its three-day Model Parliament in February 2017. The program offers students with an interest in civics or government a chance to experience the legislature first-hand.
The program is open to students in grades 10 to 12.
To learn more about the program or to apply, follow the link HERE. Applicantions can be submitted until October 30th.
Best of luck!
Arthur Potts, MPP
